Where are we heading ?

The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings, but shorter tempers; wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints; we spend more, but have less; we buy more but enjoy it less.

We have bigger houses and smaller families; more conveniences, but less time; we have more degrees, but less sense; more knowledge, but less judgement; more experts, but more problems; more medicine, but less wellness.

We drink too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry too quickly, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.
We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often. We've learned how to make a living, but not a life; We've added years to life, not life to years.

We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet the new neighbor. We've conquered outer space, but not inner space; We've done larger things, but not better things.

We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul; we've split the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less; we plan more, but accomplish less.

We've learned to rush, but not to wait; we have higher incomes, but, lower morals.
We build more computers to hold more information to produce more copies than ever, but have less communication; We've become long on quantity, but short on quality.

These are the days of two incomes, but more divorce; of fancier houses, but broken homes.
These are the days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throw away morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. Where are we heading ....?

If we die tomorrow, the company that we are working for could easily replace us in a matter of days. But the family we left behind will feel the loss for the rest of their lives.
And come to think of it, we pour ourselves more into work than to our family an unwise investment indeed.

So what is the morale of the story????

Don't work too hard... and you know what's the full word of family?

FAMILY = (F)ATHER (A)ND (M)OTHER, (I) (L)OVE (Y)OU

Nice article !But be it from a book, another article or a sermon of a self-declared prophetic guru on a website ..But the paradox of it is that it can also be interpreted as slogan slinging.. Allow me to comment with no malice or prejudice.

Paradox ? There will always be one in any aspect of life, if you think about it, or look for it, – from primary or secondary source. A paradox doesn’t necessarily reflect the severity of what it professed to show.\

Sometimes it is too easy to say things superficially. It is too easy to ‘quote’ something from somewhere spoken by someone.

In life, it is not always black or white. No one person can ever profess to know all and speak with a ‘holier than thou’ tone .

In life there is too much variables – especially when you are dealing with human nature.

In life, it is too easy to stand and pass ‘holy’ or self-presumptuous sermons with a micro and narrow outlook based only on one's own experience-or the lack of it.

Going to the second part of your posting, granted ! you are not indispensable in the eyes of your employer. But one’s method of working should not be the bane of another’s frustration and disappointment in life.

Allow me to comment further-

.”… But the family we left behind will feel the loss for the rest of their lives.”
I agree with you. That statement goes without saying and obvious enough !

“…And come to think of it, we pour ourselves more into work than to our family an unwise investment indeed….”. Of course that is your personal sentiment and I respect it. But allow me mine.—although these are two separate entities, the success that most families attained ( if the definition of success encompasses values, material, professional success, spiritual and the success of the children with feelings of complete humility and decency and gratitude embedded in them) are always results of earlier hard work. I could quote real-life examples here if need be.

The word ‘....more into work’ is again argumentative and subjective without further elaboration and qualification it can be considered as just a sweeping statement.

So if the key word here is ‘family’, personally , I have written a posting on my birthday last year. A reflection of my family and I, –the hard work, the risk, the sacrifices ---and the rewards and humble achievements that has brought us .

Thank you for an interesting perspective of your personal opinion and I apologize for the long comment that it incurred.
